Here are some Long Distance Relationship Tips that you can try so as to spice things up in your relationship in spite of the distance. I have compiled the best tips on making an LDR livelier than following the standard disciplined approach. If you haven’t read about the more essential and serious approach that is fundamentally required to survive a long distance relationship, then please read it here!
LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP TIPS
1. Capture Moments from Your daily Life
When you live apart for a long time, you tend to lose your understanding and feeling of the person you love. Exchanging photographs and videos of your routine life gives a special sense of closeness with your partner. It helps you get rid of insecurities too. Try it out, don’t be shy!
2. Write Love Letters instead of Emails
The emotions that are attached with a letter can just not be replicated through electronic-mail (e-mail)! Every once in 2-3 weeks, try to write a letter than an email. It feels special and conveys efforts taken to make the relationship grow better. Be romantic even if it may sound cheesy to actually speak that way! The person reading it feels truly special.
3. Be Materialistic & Exchange Materialistic things
First of all before you both part, try to give each other a physical object so that you can hold onto it and feel it when you miss the other person. It grows your love multifold in the true sense! Try sending each other gifts depending on whatever is financially possible for you. It shows thoughtfulness and expresses that “I want to make you happy!”
4. Remember Occasions, Send Gifts & Throw Surprises
Make a list of the most important days in your relationship and put a reminder either on your computer or your cell phone. You may send the person gifts, make a surprise visit or just send a simple e-card if you can’t do too much. It indicates that he/she is always on your mind however busy your professional life is and whatever the distance between you two is!
5. Get Naughty on the Phone or Skype
This completely depends on the level of intimacy that you share with your partner. If you have been physically intimate, then staying away for month is just traumatic! Get onto the phone late at night, turn off your lights, make yourself private and talk to your boyfriend/girlfriend or spouse in a low sexy voice. Let your imaginations stretch liberally and express yourself openly. If you want to take things to another level, get on your webcam and …. Umm, can’t explain much here. Feel comfortable whatever you are doing!
These are really the most effective long distance relationship tips. Try them out; they surely will bring in a lot of life and excitement in your LDR. Do leave back your comments and experiences here!

LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP PROBLEMS
1. Suspecting & Paranoid Partner
Emotions of suspicion and paranoia breed serious insecurity in a relationship. Insecurity brings with it a whole different war to fight; you can read about it here... Learn to trust your partner with a broad mindset and love him/her whole heartedly. If your partner has to cheat on you, he/she will cheat irrespective of your physical presence around them. So avoid choking yourself and your partner with feelings of insecurity and suspicion. If you still seem to have a problem, you can try finding a solution here!
2. “That’s not what I meant”
Being in an LDR, you are bound to exchange emails, have online chats and send each other text messages. Now very often, just plain written text does not convey your emotion or tone in any way. This often leads to misunderstandings and either of you may feel really hurt after reading something. The best solution when you find something offensive, rude or hurtful is to ring up your loved one and speak up about how you felt when you read a certain text. The issue might be little, but jumping to conclusions without speaking to each other can lead to serious quarrels. So communicate verbally!
3. Sorting out Fights over Email
Similar to the problem above, if you try to sort issues out over email, things can really take an ugly turn. This is simply because you don’t convey your emotion or tone through an email. Both of you need to be patient till the next time you speak than just shooting out an email in anger. Those words written in black and white can hurt much more and have a long lasting negative effect attached to them.
4. Believing that LDRs don’t work
Many couples believe that arguments, fights and misunderstandings make the LDR an unattractive proposition. We tend to forget that these are elements of any normal relationship without which we wouldn’t be able to appreciate the more romantic emotions. Being in an LDR makes it difficult to sort things out and making it up to your sweetheart is rather difficult because of the distance. However, reminding each other the reason for which you both parted temporarily and trusting the fact that your relationship is just like any other normal relationship will belittle those insignificant issues!
5. Talking way too often on the Phone and Internet
Some couples really overdo the ritual of keeping in touch daily over the phone/internet. When you are together, you don’t just talk; you do things together and sometimes just enjoy the silent company of each other. Trying to talk way too long runs you out of things to speak about, makes you feel bored and eventually makes you believe it is a lifeless boring relationship. Just speaking once a day for 20 mins about the most interesting or significant things and exchanging text messages 3-5 times a day is perfect. You may probably do the long hours, get cam naughty and play internet games over a weekend to keep the spark alive!
6. Getting Carried Away
After an association with your loved one for a long period, their sudden absence causes a void in your life. Just because you are used to feeling loved, your mind tends to get carried away towards people who are even a little friendly towards you. In the attempt of pacifying your heart, you may end up straying away thinking you are in love. Sometimes, it might not take so many emotions, but just the freedom gives you an opportunity to casually flirt or even cheat more seriously on your partner.
The Solution: Consciousness and Realization of what you are risking and reinforcing the vow of commitment will see you through!
Long Distance Relationship problems will come and go. It is your commitment and proactive efforts to nurture the relationship that will foster a stronger bond of love. You may start your efforts by sharing the guide below with your sweetheart…

Long Distance Relationship Advice

By the way, I really recommend that you do go through the whole LDR Guide at least once... However, if you are too tired for now, watch the video below -- it will give you a gist! I would like to share with the BlogJeez readers the Long Distance Relationship Advice I received from my counselor and mentor Emily Downing. My girlfriend Sharon and I were skeptical and kept pondering, “Do Long Distance Relationships really work?” before I had travel miles away to another city for my organization for 15 months. Just that you should know, it has been 7 months now and Sharon & I have had a beautiful relationship living miles apart…
Here below is the advice from Mrs. Downing that we have tried to incorporate in our long distance relationship and it works for us.
1. Define Your Relationship Status Clearly
Dating, Committed Boyfriend-Girlfriend, Committed Marriage, Seeing Each Other or Engaged… Whatever it might be! The couples that avoid such confrontation end up having a rocky time. For instance, a couple seeing each other needs to clearly decide if they are open or closed to dating someone else when living apart. If neither of them is clear about the feelings and expectations of the other, it is evident that there will be heartaches and wars!
2. Set Mutually Acceptable Relationship Rules & Standards
Setting some basic rules at the onset of an LDR is necessary because being human we are bound to take time to get used to drastic changes. Gradually, trust and understanding will build, but that requires the beginning to be solid. Simple things such as returning calls and messages, keeping your spouse (or boyfriend/girlfriend) informed about your social circle & whereabouts, taking each other’s advice before doing something drastically different and having consensus on issues that might possibly trigger an argument are all that need to have a common and acceptable understanding.
3. Have Strong Communication (Doesn’t mean repetitive or very frequent calls)
Schedule a time that is mutually comfortable for both of you to talk. Try getting online and use a webcam so that the conversation feels more personal. If you aren’t gonna be able to make it online, leave your partner a message. Keeping him/her waiting and not showing up implies you take your partner for granted. If you are the less busier person in the relationship, then ensure that you have a hobby or interest to keep you occupied.
4. Do Things Together From a Distance
Just the standard phone conversations and chatting on a messenger make life dull. Here are a few ideas for Long Distance Couples to do together when they are apart
a. Watch the same movie or YouTube videos and then discuss it
b. Listen to the same song in the background while chatting online
c. Gaze at the night sky at your end
d. Play a game over the internet
e. Decide a common menu for dinner
f. Have a common Twitter account private to both of you and tweet as your day passes

Long Distance Relationships Advice
Advice by: Emily Downing

This is all the Long Distance Relationship advice one needs. It requires immense effort and discipline to make an LDR work; simply because you don’t get chances to make it up to your sweetheart when you make a mistake. Follow these tips honestly and when the day comes to reunite, you will have a bond with your sweetheart much stronger than before!

Here below is part 2 of the advice from Mrs. Downing that we have tried to incorporate in our long distance relationship and it works for us.

5. Use a Long Distance Relationship to Your Advantage
You have surely complained about not getting your own space, compromised on certain things you wanted to do and gave your partner’s choice more priority, isn’t it? Now is your chance to let your individuality bloom and breathe fully. You don’t have anybody snapping at you or getting irritated over little issues and you get to do what you choose, no compromises! So have fun during this span…
6. Discuss About Your Future
The fact that you separate from each other and still let your relationship breathe life implies you are doing it for a reason – for a better future, in most cases! It is extremely important that both your ends do converge at a certain point in future and this point should be pretty solid. With this time in mind, each person tries harder to make the relationship work. Moreover, you have a certain direction to follow in life; else you are wasting time & energy!
7. Make Plans to Meet Each Other
The sense of touch & smell can’t be replaced by talking over Skype. Such physical needs are largely important to feel the love and romance. Therefore, plan a visit every once in a while when you are free. Take off on brief weekend getaways. The wait for seeing each other drives in so much excitement that it almost makes you feel like a teen. When together, spend most of your time enjoying the company of your loved one rather than settling issues, planning the “perfect trip” and eventually realizing you barely have any quality time left.
8. Be Faithful, Learn to Trust Your Mate & Don’t be A Control Freak
When you accept to get into a long distance relationship, you commit to mutual trust and faithfulness. Accept that you and your partner will both have your own social lives. You will hear about some new people, you will see that there are little changes in your partner’s behavior towards you and your calls/messages might take some time to be replied back to. Suspicion and paranoia at such times only chokes both the individuals as well as the warmth you share. Just keep each other informed of your new social circle and the happenings around you. Introduce your new group of friends to your boyfriend/girlfriend. Most importantly, be faithful yourself!

These problems aren't meant to scare you away from having a Long Distance Relationship, but to educate you what you are up against. Go through the LDR Guide to learn how to survive the distance. You are discouraged to have an LDR if:
1. You are just chat buddies. It is because you haven't experienced the person in real life. Real life behavior is largely different from online behavior.
2. You have been together for a very short span of time like 5-6 months only and you have to separate due to a job or school/university, etc.
3. You have arguments and difference of opinions more often than a common consensus on issues.
4. You both do not see your ends converging somewhere in future.
For couples who fall in none of those categories, you are safe to go ahead with a Long Distance Relationship. All you need is to show some discipline to follow this advice and these tips.
Success Rate of LDRs
The success rate of Long Distance Relationships is somewhere in the range of 50-60% according to surveys carried out by AC Nielsen among 3000 couples living in large cities around the world. Majority of the failures in LDRs occur when the couples fall in one of the 4 categories mentioned above and the remaining ones fail due to lack of knowledge on how to handle the distance.
